Girls’ Education Trust exists to help vulnerable girls bridge the social or cultural barriers that have a negative impact on girls’ academic achievement through sponsorship, advocacy, resource mobilization and partnerships with key stakeholders.
To be a dependable hand that lifts disadvantaged girls toward their dreams.
On a broader scale, we envision a nation where every girl has access to credible fund support for access and quality education in Malawi.
The Registered Trustees of Girls’ Secondary Education is responsible for supporting financially vulnerable but eligible girls pursuing or intending to pursue secondary school education as well as promoting girls’ education in Malawi. The Trust was incorporated on 5th December 2018 to help vulnerable girls bridge the social and cultural barriers that have a negative impact on girls’ academic achievement. Since its inception initiated by the Ministry of Education together with the United Nations Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF), this support has now extended to 6,800 vulnerable girls.
Another issue of concern of were many standalone programs, activities or efforts being done disjointedly by different organizations promoting girls’ education in Malawi; of which in many cases, resulted into waste or loss of resources, lack of accountability, duplications, redundancies, or inefficient allocation of the resources.
Girls’ Education Trust thus works to implement activities while coordinating the various sponsorship programs available, ensuring that there are no programs and efforts being done disjointedly by different organizations involved in the promotion of girls’ secondary education in Malawi.
The Trust was instituted with the main objectives set out in the Trust constitution as follows:
